Undergraduate Student-Translators’ Difficulties in Translating English Word + Preposition Collocations to Arabic

English and Arabic have different types of collocations, i.e., groups words that go together. This study aims to explore the difficulties Saudi undergraduate student-translators in translating word + preposition collocations such as verb preposition, noun adjective Arabic. A corpus faulty word+ was collected from students-translators’ graduation projects identify translation errors, strategies, sources errors contexts which occurred. comparison showed following categories: (i) cases were match those their equivalents form meaning (depend on يعتمد على, apologize for/to يعتذر لـ/عن , interested inمهتم بـ ) ; (ii) where a is used collocation but no equivalent (wait for ينتظر ); (iii) an after ( gave him tea قدم له الشاي, offered proposal عرض عليه اقتراح, stopped participating توقف عن المشاركة, lack somethingيفتقر إلى ). Results students mistranslated certain prepositions collocations. In 84% substituted by one, 13%, they added does not require 3% deleted requires use preposition. addition, 19% interlingual (transfer English) 81% intralingual due inadequate competence L1 (Arabic). 44% extraneous 21% ignorance language rules 18% common students’ local dialect. 86% syntactic; 11% semantic stylistic errors. are reported detail implications pedagogy given.
